What is “tethering” ? Read this comprehensive article on Wikipedia. It explains it very well. It is something that was not previously possible with an iPhone. Fortunately that restriction is now a matter of the past.

With the upgrade of your iPhone 3G’s firmware to version 3.0 it is possible to enable “tethering” and MMS. Please note that I have not gone through all the steps myself and have no firsthand experience as to whether this actually works. You do this at your own risk. It certainly appears to work judging from what is written on the web. I plan to play with it over the weekend. This has been one of the big iPhone drawbacks for me and I, for one, am over the moon with this added functionality. Not to mention the ability to forward a SMS.

Instructions to enable tethering can be found here… Note: It is not necesarry to “jailbreak” your iPhone.

Now if someone can tell me how to stream movies from my Mvix PVR to my iPhone I’d be extremely appreciative… J

Kind regards
